AlMar
About This Spot
Stepping into AlMar feels like entering a warm, inviting corner of Brooklyn where the day carries a gentle rhythm and the hum of good conversation blends effortlessly with the clink of glasses. Housed near the waterfront on Front Street, this Italian restaurant and bar creates an atmosphere that is both spacious and welcoming—offering pockets of intimacy amid a setting designed to bring people together, whether for a leisurely brunch or a lively evening out.
The space focuses on comfort without oversimplifying—wooden tables and thoughtfully arranged seating give room for larger gatherings, while smaller nooks invite quiet moments paired with a perfectly crafted espresso or a carefully selected wine. There’s a quiet attention to detail in the mood here, one that feels thoughtful rather than staged, setting the stage for authentic connections over shared plates and drinks.
AlMar’s menu mirrors this spirit of approachable elegance without fuss. It’s a journey through familiar Italian flavors elevated by house-made touches and seasonal twists. Whether it’s the delicate embrace of a roasted octopus or the earthy richness found in handmade pastas and risotto cakes, each dish invites you to slow down and savor. Breakfast and brunch fare bear the same loving care—from light, cloud-like eggs to crispy saffron risotto cakes, offering both comfort and surprise.
The bar contributes its own quiet charm. Cocktails like the espresso martini or a perfectly balanced Old Fashioned are served with the ease of a local favorite, not a polished showpiece. This is the sort of place where the staff’s warmth and knowledge gently guide your choices, making every visit feel like coming back to a trusted friend’s table.
AlMar holds a subtle Brooklyn ease; a place where many find themselves returning not because it demands attention but because it feels like a natural home for good food, thoughtful drinks, and lasting company. Whether you’re unwinding after a busy day or catching up with friends over a slow weekend brunch, it’s a spot that embodies a rhythm both relaxed and unhurried, leaving a quiet impression that lingers well beyond the last bite.

My wife and I met a friend here last night and had a most unexpected next-level dinner experience. Soft shell crabs were outstanding, same for the tuna tartare, fiori di zucca, fava bean entree, Italian style pork ribs with broccoli rabe, and more. The wines by the glass: Erbaluce, Fanti Rosso dM, Etna Rosso were all perfect for this menu. The staff here is on point and hardworking, clearly making every effort to keep things moving and keep everyone happy. I can’t say enough about it. Al Mar is a great restaurant.

It's like my second dining room. The food is great. Staff and owners are the best. Great wine list and the specials menu is massive

I have visited AlMar on many occasions, and I have always had a wonderful experience. The staff is incredibly kind and attentive. It’s a great spot for any occasion, but it feels especially cozy during the holidays. The food is absolutely delicious, and they offer an excellent selection of wines. Dining here is always enjoyable, and a great way to end the night is to take a stroll along the waterfront to see the city lights.

If you are in NYC searching for authentic Italian food. Came here and ask for Alfredo

By New York standards it was surprisingly spacious and seating was ample. Quite a few long tables for bigger groups and the furniture and decor are better than most places in a similar price range. I was wondering why it wasn't more crowded but maybe the reason could be that the place is big and there are a lot of good eating pl toaces all around. The egg preparations were good and so was the crostini. Pancakes however were just normal. All in all it was a good outing and I will definitely visit again.

Our favorite local Italian spot in DUMBO / Brooklyn Heights. Staff is great, welcoming and attentive. The food is some of the best Italian we’ve had in NY. Would highly recommend coming here. Predominantly a local crowd even though it’s so close to heavy tourist traffic, which is nice.
